In May 2021, the administration of the Prague district of Rzheporye, headed by the headman Pavel Novotny, erected a memorial plaque in memory of the soldiers of the Bunyachenko division (Vlasovites), who in May 1945 came to the aid of the inhabitants of the Czech Republic. At the memorial engraved on the board is a quote from the book The Gulag Archipelago by Alexander Solzhenitsyn “Did all the Czechs figure out later which Russians saved their city?”. The process of erecting the monument was accompanied by sharp criticism, especially from Russia.
On the evening of May 6, 2022, unknown people sprayed the monument with black paint. Pavel Novotny tweeted on Friday morning that the monument had already been cleared and the perpetrators had been filmed by CCTV cameras. “There are three videos. They can immediately come to the police and confess,” Novotny said.
